BREAKING NEWS: U.S.- CHINA TENSION RISING, As Warship Sailed Within 12nm In South China Sea

South China Sea tension rising, as US military carried out “freedom of navigation” operations near islands in the South China Sea effectively controlled by China. An official at the US Department of Defense said that the guided-missile destroyer, USS Decatur (DDG 73) sailed within 12 nautical miles of artificial islands on Gaven Reef, and Johnson Reefs in the Spratly Islands on Sunday.

The official said that the United States is against the excessive claims of maritime interests, and that it upholds the rights of all countries for free utilization of waters supported by international law, and demonstrate that the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows. Apparently the US aim was to show that it does not support China’s sovereignty claims and military utilization in those waters.

The US has long slammed what it calls China’s militarization of these islands, with US officials accusing Beijing of deploying missiles and electronic jamming equipment there.
